Our Music Room

About our Music Room

Our Music Room is situated in our ‘Big House’ and is therefore available to a composer or musician residing with us as a full board artist. The room houses a grand piano which is kept at concert pitch, along with a harpsichord. The Music Room is situated at the back of the Big House, overlooking the orchard and the garden to the west. Well lit, centrally heated, and with plenty of room to spread out, there is room for as many instruments as our musicians and composers want to bring along for their stay. The focus of the Music Room is a wonderful painting by Mick Cullen RHA (1946-2020), who made the work while resident at the Centre in the 1980s. The Music Room in our Big House showing painting by Mick Cullen

I find the house a brilliant place to go for concentrated bursts at either the beginning or the end of projects when immersion and total lack of distraction is really helpful.

Nick Kelly - Musician and Screenplay Writer.

I cherish the time I spent in a number of residencies at The Tyrone Guthrie Centre. As a budding composer, having the freedom and space to focus on my craft helped me to find my voice within the contemporary Irish traditional music landscape.

Zoë Conway - Composer and Musician
